The financial heart of the Netherlands
The Amsterdam Stock Exchange offers ambitious companies from the Netherlands and abroad access to the global capital markets and connects the various market participants.
Companies like Adyen, ASML, Marel and Prosus are proof of Amsterdam’s appeal to multinationals, thanks to the access to global institutional investors that the Dutch capital market offers. The Amsterdam market is equally attractive to domestic small and mid sized companies.
We offer professional traders a hi-tech environment through our proprietary trading platform Optiq, and private and institutional investors the assurance of a transparent and regulated trading environment.

Success starts at the level below the Champions League
“Investing in multinationals may be safer and easier than in a mid-cap or small-cap fund, but success does not start in the Champions League. I would therefore like to appeal to investors: do not overlook medium-sized companies.”
Simone Huis in ‘t Veld, CEO Euronext Amsterdam, writes a monthly column for De Telegraaf around current affairs in the financial world.

Prokkelweek – Start preparations Prokkelweek
On the 12th of December Maartje van Boekel (VNG) and Tim van Zanten (LFB and Stichting Prokkel) will open the trading day of the stock market with a bang on the gong.
This is also the starting signal for the preparations of the Prokkelweek, a week filled with events connecting people with and without intellectual disabilities. During the network meetings in January, municipalities, companies and other organisations brainstorm about the upcoming Prokkelweek. In 2020, the week is from Monday the 8th of June until Saturday the 13th of June.
Stichting Prokkel / Prokkel Foundation
Since 2007 The Prokkel Foundation organises “exiting encounters” throughout the country between people with and without intellectual disabilities. To show how important and valuable these meetings are, Stichting Prokkel organises a ‘Week of the Prokkel’ every year: One week as an example and inspiration for the rest of the year.

Stichting Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI) – Mission accomplished
Today's opening gong ceremony marks the successful closing chapter of Stichting Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI).
Nine years ago, CYFI's mission was to grow a global movement on the topic of financial inclusion and financial education for children and youth. Today, it has seen the Movement reach a point where it is self-sustaining and no longer needs a coordinator. As such, CYFI’s last milestone has been fulfilled and we will be proudly shutting its doors on December 31, 2019.
It is a true achievement and source of fulfillment for CYFI to be where every NGO wants to be: at a point where what it has built can go on without it.

The Dutch East India Company (VOC): the start of global share trading in 1602
Amsterdam-based property broker and merchant Abraham van Ketwich founded the first investment fund in the world and called it ‘Eendragt Maakt Magt’ (‘unity makes strength’).
Opening trading by ringing a bell or gong is an old custom. From as early as 1592 the exchange clerk sounded a bell to open the exchange. Anyone who was late was fined.
The EOE index, now called the AEX-Index, was introduced in 1983 and contained only the most important shares: the first blue chip index in Europe.
The first options exchange in Europe, the European Options Exchange, started in the Beurs van Berlage on 4 April 4 1978.
The cradle of trading
The Amsterdam stock exchange has been a trusted institution in the Netherlands and abroad for centuries. As early as 1602 merchants here traded ‘shares’ of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), the first company ever to go to public. Soon after the ‘initial public offering’, a thriving trade grew up, and Amsterdam developed itself as the cradle of global share trading.
