    417th Anniversary of the Amsterdam Exchange

    This year, the Amsterdam exchange, the oldest stock exchange in the world, celebrates its 417th  anniversary. Euronext celebrates this special occasion together with Stichting Capital Amsterdam, the Netherlands Economic Historic  Archive (NEHA), and the Royal Dutch Academy of Sciences (KNAW). To celebrate this Jessica Dijkman, secretary of NEHA sounds the gong.

    In Dutch exchange history, the Dutch East India Company (VOC) plays a key role. In 1602, it was the first company to go to the exchange, which makes it the founder of the first stock exchange: the Amsterdam exchange. The first initial public offering was no standalone event. Another important innovation preceded it: the invention of the modern company - the limited liability company - by this very VOC.

    IEX.nl celebrates ten years of bull market

    To celebrate ten years of bull market IEX.nl visitor and ex-Theodoor Gillissen employee Michael Molenaar sounds the gong.

    Who will call the bottom?

    "Who will call the bottom?", the Dutch investor website IEX.nl asked its visitors on the 5th  March 2009 during the darkest days of the debt crisis stock market crash. It turned out the momentum was perfectly timed. Just four days afterward on the 9th of March, the AEX reached 194.99. Then the index turned.... into one long upward trend to rise to this day. It is the longest bull market in stock market history.

    Michael Molenaar, like many visitors, took up the challenge of trying to call the bottom- characteristic stockmarket jargon - and he was only a few points and some minutes away.

    For the fifth consecutive year, more than 75 stock exchanges across the globe took part in global initiative ‘Ring the Bell for Gender Equality’, to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019 on Friday 8 March 2019.

    The events are a partnership between IFC, Sustainable Stock Exchanges (SSE) Initiative, UN Global Compact, UN Women, the World Federation of Exchanges and Women in ETFs, to raise awareness about the business case for women’s economic empowerment and the opportunities for the private sector to advance gender equality and sustainable development.
