    Fairtrade Week

Jenna Heysters opens the Stock Exchange in Amsterdam, together with her colleagues on the occasion of the national Fairtrade Week.

Fairtrade WeekThis spring, during the Fairtrade Week, 4 - 12 May, Fairtrade Netherlands is encouraging companies, towns, consumers and volunteers to purchase more Fairtrade certified products. Through the #weetwatjekoopt campaign, Fairtrade wants to make consumers more aware of the sometimes poignant stories behind popular products, such as coffee, bananas and chocolate. The retail promotions during the Fairtrade Week ensure that the volume for farmers' organizations in developing countries continues to grow and

consequently more Fairtrade premium can be generated.

    About Fairtrade Netherlands

Fairtrade Netherlands is the organizer of the Fairtrade Week and the owner of the Fairtrade/Max Havelaar label in the Netherlands. Fairtrade contributes to the sustainable development of producers in developing countries. Through better trading conditions, they work on improving their living conditions and the protection of the environment. A minimum price applies to Fairtrade products that serve as a safety net for low world market prices. In addition, farmers and workers organizations receive a Fairtrade premium that they spend at their own discretion, such as production improvement, medical care or education. Fairtrade strict conditions are independently checked. The Fairtrade label can be found in the Netherlands on more than 7,500 products such as coffee, tea, chocolate, juice, bananas and flowers that are supplied by more than 160 companies.

    Stichting Oxville

Stichting Oxville was founded by Carlo Dias, Aydin Dehzad and Bas Broertjes to bring cinema to Amsterdam Nieuw-West. When they met in 2016 at the Cannes film festival, they discovered that they had been missing the same thing. In almost every Amsterdam area you can go to the cinema, but not in their neighborhood, Nieuw West. Eventually, they decided to take matters into their own hands and founded Stichting Oxville. The trio has been active in distribution and production for over a decade and now created the perfect opportunity to transfer their passion for film to their own neighborhood. They are building a community of cinephiles together with the local residents.

Stichting Oxville received ‘het Zilveren Roosje’ during the New Year’s reception 2019 at Pathé Theatres Tuschinski. They are honored with this award from Stichting Jan Nijland Zilveren Roos which encourages the three founders to realize their goal: an independent film theater in and for their hometown Amsterdam Nieuw-West.

    World Wish Day

Every year on the 29th of April Make-A-Wish celebrates World Wish Day all over the world. In 1980 Make-A-Wish fulfilled their first wish for the 7-years old Chris. His heartfelt wish, ‘being a police officer’, was made possible by the whole community.

In 1989 Make-A-Wish Nederland fulfills their first wish, the wish of the10-year old Cindy. She wanted to attend the very popular tv-show ‘Zeg ‘ns AA’. An enthusiastic nurse from The Hague Juliana Children’s Hospital referred her wish. Friends from the foundation raised the money needed by organizing a sponsored cycling tour. Like a real movie star, Cindy was allowed to visit the set of her favorite tv-show and took a picture with the star of the show ‘Mien Dobbelsteen’. The rest is history.

    Make-A-Wish Netherlands

With more than 400 volunteers we realize over 600 wishes for children, between the age of 3 and 18 years old, with a life-threatening illness every year. We believe a wish experience can be a game-changer, it provides the children and their entire families with strength and energy for the future. That’s what Make-A-Wish Nederland has been doing for the past 30 years! 2019 is the 30th jubilee of Make-A-Wish Nederland and this is something the organization commends by organizing extra festive activities throughout the year.
