De gong; een eewenoude traditie

The gong: an age-old tradition

The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in the world and a household name in the Netherlands and abroad. As early as the 17th century, trading was opened and closed by sounding a gong. Today, all securities trading is automated and the opening is a ceremonial act. Directors of listed companies, business people, politicians and charity ambassadors have helped keep this tradition alive in recent years.

    ABN AMRO Public Sector Clients

ABN AMRO Public Sector Clients visits Beursplein 5

Within ABN AMRO (ticker symbol: ABN), there is a specific department called Public Sector Clients which focuses on the financing of the public sector (e.g. Government, Educational institutes, hospitals and other care  institutes). One of the key points on which she focuses is sustainability. To bring this subject to the attention, they visit the Amsterdam exchange and open trading by sounding the gong.

Taking the sustainability strategy of the bank as a starting point, Public Sector Clients has defined how she can advise her customers regarding sustainability. Many large steps can be taken within the public sector. The positive impact that the public sector can have on e.g. the CO2 emission of the Netherlands is large when the sector will actively pursue this challenge. With the launch of a tailor-made sustainability strategy for the public sector, ABN AMRO wants to do her part.

Before the end of 2020, ABN AMRO Public Sector Clients wants to achieve an energy reduction of 15% in the real estate of her customers. Besides this, they want to start at least 15 waste-reduction projects before 2020. Think about simplifying waste separation in hospitals and financing circular construction projects, in which raw materials get a new life at the end of the life cycle. Connecting government, investors and entrepreneurs through innovative Social Impact Bonds is the last goal. At the end of 2020 they want to have realized 15 of these sustainable bonds, so to be of help in solving social issues.
