Interest payment on perpetual bonds
Today, the district water board (in Dutch: Hoogheemraadschap) De Stichtse Rijnlanden paid out interest on two perpetual bonds, dating from 1638 and 1765 respectively.
The perpetual bonds were issued at the time by Utrecht's Lekdijk Bovendams district water board, the legal predecessor of De Stichtse Rijnlanden.
The interest bonds have long been part of the historical archive of the Amsterdam Stock Exchange thanks to the Amsterdam Capital Foundation, and are among the oldest known still-interest-bearing bonds in the world.
The trading day was opened by Jeroen Haan, Dijkgraaf of Hoogheemraadschap De Stichtse Rijnlanden in the presence of René van Vlerken, CEO at Euronext Amsterdam.
