The gong: an age-old tradition
The Amsterdam Stock Exchange is the oldest stock exchange in the world and a household name in the Netherlands and abroad. As early as the 17th century, trading was opened and closed by sounding a gong. Today, all securities trading is automated and the opening is a ceremonial act. Directors of listed companies, business people, politicians and charity ambassadors have helped keep this tradition alive in recent years.

5359004000822c-44f7-40ed-b385-b91965d3b279Stardust BV – World Christmas Circus 35 years
To Celebrate 35 years of World Christmas Circus in Theatre Carré world renowned and Guinness Worldrecord holder juggeler Michael Ferreri and show producer Elisa van der Meyden open the Euronext stockexchange!
In the 132 year history of this worldfamous Dutch entertainment venue not a single tradition has had as much success, or has lasted as long as the Wereldkerstcircus (World christmas circus). To celebrate this incredible success a penultimate program was created with the cream of the crop of the international circus world. Only winners of the most prestigious circus festivals in the world were invited to perform in Amsterdam. The result is a showstopping experience beyond all belief! Some of the largest, most daring acts ever will be performed in the Royal Theatre! The show will be directed by the Royal Circus Gia Eradze with modern choreography and fairytale-like costumes. This jubilee promises to be everything the most famous circus in Europe was for the past 35 years AND will showcase what it will become in the future. An immersive experience of skill, art and architecture in one the most beautiful cities in the world!
Decades years ago Carré had changed from a circus venue to a theatre only venue. Its heritage stuffed away in a remote corner of an attic. 35 years ago a team of visionary creatives decided to overhaul this once famous circustemple and start a new, proud tradition. Technology, architecture and especially the incredible talent of the best performers in the world quickly turned the risky investment into an overwhelming success. 35 years later Wereldkerstcircus in Carré is perhaps the most famous Christmas tradition in the Netherland creating everlasting happy memories for generations of visitors.

510790f0ba0f32-358c-413f-95cf-6bbe168e6eebVanEck – 10 years
The gong will be struck by Martijn Rozemuller of VanEck on the occasion of the company's ten-year anniversary, founded in 2009 as Think ETF’s. Martijn Rozemuller and Gijs Koning had the vision to give investors access to fair, transparent investment products at low costs. VanEck thus became the first provider of ETFs domiciled in the Netherlands.
VanEck's first five products, including the VanEck VectorsTM AEX UCITS ETF and the VanEck VectorsTM AMX UCITS ETF, also celebrate their ten-year anniversary. The results of these products are impressive. For example, the VanEck VectorsTM AEX UCITS ETF has generated a cumulative return of 146%. Five percentage points more than the only other AEX ETF on the market, the iShares AEX UCITS ETF. This difference is due to the fact that the VanEck ETF manages to prevent dividend leakage. VanEck is the only provider of ETFs that offer Dutch investors this benefit.
VanEck remains true to its original philosophy. For example, it is one of the few ETF providers that does not do securities lending or synthetic replication for its entire UCITS product range.

Today's opening gong ceremony marks the successful closing chapter of Stichting Child and Youth Finance International (CYFI).
Nine years ago, CYFI's mission was to grow a global movement on the topic of financial inclusion and financial education for children and youth. Today, it has seen the Movement reach a point where it is self-sustaining and no longer needs a coordinator. As such, CYFI’s last milestone has been fulfilled and we will be proudly shutting its doors on December 31, 2019.
It is a true achievement and source of fulfillment for CYFI to be where every NGO wants to be: at a point where what it has built can go on without it.

448879539e5de8-87e4-479b-b36c-d7ce07e298c2Arcadis – Improving PFAS knowledge with Australian technology
Arcadis signed a Heads of Agreement with EVOCRA, enabling an exclusive commercial negotiating period within which the parties will finalize a license agreement for sole rights to the EVOCRA technology for PFAS solutions. This technology, which has already been proven at commercial scale on projects in Australia, will be a welcome addition to Arcadis’ existing suite of PFAS solutions, allowing Arcadis to continue to offer a differentiated solution for clients globally.
To celebrate that Arcadis environment director Marc Raessen will open the stock exchange.
PFAS, or per- and poly-fluorinated alkyl substances, were incorporated in commercial, industrial and consumer products, including textile coatings, stain repellents, electronics and mist suppressants. PFAS were also components of firefighting foams known as Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF). In recent years, under increasing scientific and regulatory scrutiny and community awareness, more is being understood about PFAS toxicity, environmental persistence, aquifer mobility and the potential for this emerging contaminant to bioaccumulate in natural environments and enter the food chain.
Arcadis is at the forefront of a global effort to remove PFAS from impacted sites and environments, with over 75 projects in their portfolio, representing over 300 individual sites in 12 countries. This deal will continue Arcadis’ push to achieve greater market share within the PFAS space and provide their clients with a unique and innovative solution that can be used on its own and/or in conjunction with other technologies to remove PFAS from impacted sources. In the beginning of 2020 Arcadis will start tests in The Netherlands tests with the EVOCRA technology.

448878a104a49b-8edd-445b-8b11-d3ca3b286ab7ICT Media B.V. - CIO of the Year 2019: Perry van der Weyden
Perry van der Weyden, who sounds the gong today, is CIO of Rijkswaterstaat and recently proclaimed the winner of the CIO of the Year Award 2019. He can call himself the best "chief information officer" in the Netherlands. Van der Weyden owes the prize to the way in which he manages to achieve results within the government, a complex environment with many stakeholders.
Winning the CIO of the Year Award 2019 is the reason for opening the Amsterdam stock exchange. Rob Beijleveld, CEO of ICT Media and initiator of the CIO of the Year Award, finds Van der Weyden a shining example in the government world. "You can see that he manages to get digital initiatives off the ground in an unconventional way and subsequently knows how to find support for them." The other jury members were also very enthusiastic about the winner.
At Rijkswaterstaat the share of the IT function in the primary process is growing. Digitization is making its entrance into the monitoring of traffic flows, and the management and maintenance of roads, shipping lanes and other objects. "A true digital revolution" is what Van der Weyden calls it.
